Housing Renovation/Construction

What we do

Milwaukee Community Service Corps members construct and rehab blighted properties located throughout the City of Milwaukee. The focus is to make the houses as energy-efficient as possible, including installing renewable technologies like solar energy, so the families that occupy them will have affordable energy bills in addition to the benefits of home ownership.

Skills learned

Working in crews, young people learn the following skills:

  • Rough and Finish Carpentry
  • Roofing/Siding
  • Drywalling
  • Weatherization
  • Renewable technologies (solar)

Community benefit

This program provides the following benefits to the community:

  • Addresses the shortage of affordable housing
  • Provides young adults with training in "green jobs" such as weatherization and renewable energy
  • Removes blighted, vacant houses that can attract crime and depress property values

Please wait while we gather your results.
